Dr. Roger
Lederer is an emeritus Professor of Biological Sciences at California
State University,
Chico, whose academic and research interests are ecology, environmental
science, science education and ornithology. He has published over
thirty
scientific research papers, a textbook entitled Ecology and Field Biology,
a popular book entitled Amazing Birds, and
two field guides to birds. Dr. Lederer has taught ornithology and
ecology, worked with environmental organizations and schools on research
and education projects, has traveled to over 60 countries, and given
many public presentations. He served six years as Chair of the Department
of Biological Sciences, ten years as Dean of the College of Natural
Sciences, Director of the Bidwell Environmental Institute, Manager
of
the 4000 acre Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve in northern California,
and held the position of Endowed Professor of Environmental Literacy.
He taught ecology and ornithology, and travels as a naturalist
on cruise lines around the world. He also owns and maintains the popular
website Ornithology: the Science of Birds.
